Interiors and DIY

Ever since the time in middle school when I glued two denim pockets together and called it a purse, I’ve had a knack for DIY projects. Here are some spaces I’ve zhuzhed up over the years.

Small South End One-Bedroom Apartment

Maybe it’s a product of growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, but I’ve always been obsessed with rainbows. I love that they are proof that all the colors, whether pastel or neon or somewhere in between, go together. In my 20s, I was trying to do a version of what “grown up” looked like, but it was when I embraced my love of color that my design style really emerged. From my first post-college pad to this 520 square-foot South End apartment, my design style has grown and changed, and this place felt like a perfect manifestation of me—even with plenty of affordable finds from places like IKEA and Target. (You can shop it here.)

Coastal Library and Guest Room

For Mother’s Day 2019, I surprised my mom Donna with a makeover of my teenage bedroom. After battling cancer, I wanted to turn this underused space into a library with multiple seating areas, but that still had a bed for guests – a tall order for a room that was barely 12 x 13. Donna passed away in 2020, but I’m so proud of this space and glad she had the opportunity to enjoy it.

DIY Tie-Dye Sofa

Yes, you read that right. For Apartment Therapy’s Tie-Dye Week, I offered to make over my sofa. Tie-dyeing something as large as a sofa is its own challenge, and that was compounded by the fact that I lived in a small apartment with no washer/dryer or outdoor space to speak of. It still turned out pretty great (plus got a ton of pageviews and engagement on social media).
